JASON MORAN PRESENTS
713 → 212: Houstonians in NYC

The groundbreaking jazz pianist-composer Jason Moran, a 2010 MacArthur Fellow (aka "Genius Award" recipient), is gathering some of the hottest players currently in New York City (AC 212) by way of Houston (AC 713) for two unforgettable nights of music in mid-January at the new 92nd St. Y/Tribeca in New York (200 Hudson St.).  Like Moran, most are alumni of Houston's High School for Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA), a breeding ground for much of the talent that is now transforming the international jazz and R&B world.  January 14 features a lineup of songwriters, including R&B's wunderkind Bryan Michael Cox, backed by various ensembles from the collected group.  January 15 is devoted to jazz and its many shades, and will include interviews hosted by Moran's HSPVA jazz instructor, Dr. Robert Morgan.  Each evening will conclude with a jam session.
